Every great city has public sculpture
Picasso Sculpture, Chicago.
Miami and the Beaches could use some.
The goal of Monumental Miami is to bring monumental public sculpture by known and unknown artists to Miami and the Beaches. Some of it will be permanent, much of it will be on loan and here for only a short while.
Criteria for selection:
The works must make you stop, look, and think. Hopefully they'll lift your spirit and bring a smile to your face. Of course the reputation of the artist counts for something, but we also want to be the Medici to unknown and rising talents. Oh, yeah, we lean toward the monumental realistic and abstract depictions of the human form.
How it works:
We solicit money to fund the purchase or lease of public sculpture to be placed on public or private land with public access. The works we choose to lobby for will be chosen by us and by a poll of suggestions from the community. Besides getting bragging rights to your "own" sculpture and a pat on the back for helping make your community more beautiful and helping it become a truly world-class city, you get to deduct the donation as a charitable contribution. Because of the current nature of the economy and the lack of public monies available for such things, Monumental Miami may be one of the few ways of making public sculpture happen here. In a sense, you will become public spirited pro-active enablers of a cultural renaissance for your community.
